Toowoomba

Visiting Uncle Kerry and Auntie Alison in Toowoomba.

I flew from Sydney to Queensland and was met at the Airport by two of Alison’s daughters Jen and Mel. They kindly offered their place for the evening from which I caught the bus to Toowoomba in the morning. My uncle Kerry met me at the terminal and I was immediately enlisted in painting stage scenery for the Empire Theatre’s Beauty and the Beast production.

Toowoomba is the largest city in Australia that is not on the coast. Which means that there isn’t too much to do there. Fortunately Kerry and Alison’s hospitality was second to none. Kerry runs the Empire Theatre (I think he is the stage manager) and Alison runs a very successful dance school. I was quite amazed at their feats of coordination throughout the day – I personally would have gone insane with their workloads. Accept when it came to nearly losing my passport – but I forgive them for that ;)

Their house is an doer upper old colonial style building. They have a realist environmental outlook which is very refreshing – a water tank and rationing (much as the rest of the state) and will soon be installing solar panels. Only one toilet for the whole house to save on water – what a novel idea. It is easier for cleaning only having one too. And the cutest two dogs on the planet (after Becky of course).

The only bit of “Uncle” Kerry and “Aunty” Alison that appears to be missing is the “old”. I guess that is implicit in your calling them Aunty and Uncle. Pleased to see Becky gets top dog rather than Spot or Shelby.

What a lovely photo of Spot and Shelby. Glad your “auntie” and “uncle” made you welcome and even gave you a job.
